The Brothers Paranormal Scenic Design

The Brothers Paranormal follows two Thai brothers who launch a business to investigate paranormal activities. When they investigate the home of an African-American couple, who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina, their notions of reality, fantasy, and sanity clash against the shocking truth. This play highlights how present-day humanity deals with grief and the beauty of compassion that is revealed even in our darkest hours.

Scenic Designer’s Note:

Within the world of the paranormal, one often experiences an eerie stillness in the air, like something is just not right. There is a piece to the puzzle missing in Max’s world, and I was interested to see how that could be translated into the design when the audience is revealed to the full picture in the end. Then I thought: Perhaps the set itself should act as puzzle pieces in a literal sense? We see individual sets for Max’s apartment in each scene, and finally see it as a whole in the last scene. As for the color palette, I believe deep, earthy, and organic tones would reflect the dark atmosphere of the story as well as Delia’s experience with Hurricane Katrina
